General Surgeon

Dr. Claudio Nunes is a board-certified general surgeon with nearly 20 years of experience providing surgical care in Northwestern Wisconsin. He earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and is board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Dr. Nunes developed an interest in medicine and the human body at an early age, and his fascination with anatomy and problem-solving continued throughout medical school. He was drawn to general surgery because it combines his interests in science, hands-on care, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nunes has developed broad experience in general surgery, with particular interests in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, endoscopy, and varicose vein treatment. He has also served as Chief of Surgery and Medical Director of Surgical Specialties and is passionate about expanding access to high-quality surgical care in rural communities.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Nunes enjoys swimming, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, strength training, and playing guitar. He also enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, canoeing, and camping, as well as working on his property with his family. Northwestern Wisconsin has been home to the Nunes family for many years, and he values the opportunity to live and work in the community he serves.
