Dr. Hurley received his M.D. degree from the University Of Wisconsin Medical School (Madison). He did a residency in Internal Medicine and was Chief Medical Resident at the University of Wisconsin from 1987-1991. Dr. Hurley was Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1990; He is also Board certified in Hematology and Oncology. He joined the regions hospital and medical staff in 1995. Dr. Hurley holds a diploma in tropical medicine and Hygiene and has practiced medicine in Tanzania, Africa since 2002.

He is the medical director of HealthPartners and Regions Hospital cancer care centers. He is responsible  for a medical staff of 10 hematology and oncology physicians with expertise in all types of adult cancer care.
