Western Wisconsin Health is now offering 3D Mammography

October 3, 2016 – Western Wisconsin Health is excited to announce that we are now offering 3D mammography at our facility.

3D Mammography is one of the most powerful diagnostic tools available for early detection of breast cancer. Conventional 2D mammography produces one image of overlapping tissue, sometimes making it difficult to detect cancers. This innovative technology produces multiple images of the entire breast allowing our Breast Radiologists to see through the layers of tissue and examine areas of concern.

“We are very excited to offer this diagnostic advancement to women in western Wisconsin,” stated Dr. Dennis Hartung, OB-GYN Physician at Western Wisconsin Health. “Early detection of cancer can dramatically improve a woman’s chance of surviving breast cancer and 3D mammography improves the rate of early detection.”

Benefits of 3D mammography may include:

  • Earlier detection of small cancers that may be hidden during a routine 2D digital mammogram.
  • Greater accuracy in pinpointing size, shape and location of abnormalities.
  • Fewer potentially unnecessary additional tests or biopsies.
  • Greater likelihood of detection of multiple breast tumors, which occur in 15% of breast cancer patients.
  • Clearer images of dense breast tissue.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, we will be participating in the “Light it up Pink” initiative and will be lighting up our building with the color pink. The pink flood lights will be visible on the south side of the building and visible from Hwy 63 and Interstate I-94 from 7:00 pm – 6:30 am October 3-October 14.

Women that come in for a mammogram during the month of October will receive a gift and be entered into a drawing to win a pink Ipad. We offer extended early morning and evening hours to make it convenient for a woman to come in for a mammogram.
