Preventive Care Visit
Preventive care helps you stay healthy by addressing potential health concerns before they become serious. The following visits are considered preventive care:
- Annual physicals
- Well-child visits
- Welcome to Medicare visits
- Medicare annual wellness exams
During these visits, your provider will review your medical history and focus on preventing health issues before they arise.
What’s Covered in a Preventive Care Visit?
- Most vaccines
- Birth control management
- Screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Cancer screenings (breast, cervical, colorectal, prostate)
- Diabetes and high cholesterol screenings
- Lifestyle screenings (alcohol/tobacco use, weight monitoring)
Important: Preventive screenings are only covered if you do not have symptoms and are due for the test based on medical guidelines. Please check with your insurance to confirm coverage.
What’s NOT Considered Preventive?
If your visit includes treatment or evaluation for a current new condition. Monitoring of conditions you already have is not considered preventive care. This includes:
- Change in medications for chronic medical conditions
- Laboratory monitoring of chronic medical conditions
- Evaluating new conditions such as a sore throat or knee pain
- Lab tests for new or existing conditions
- X-rays for new or existing conditions
