Western Wisconsin Health is a full service community hospital. We pride ourselves in offering many of the services offered by major medical centers. One of the services we offer is Swing Bed.
“Swing Bed” is transitional care provided to patients who are no longer acutely ill, but are not well or strong enough to go home and live independently. You receive the same level of care in Swing Bed as you would in a nursing home.
Swing Bed allows you to continue to receive the medical services and support you need, while working on regaining your ability to perform daily tasks in an independent manner. While in Swing Bed, you will be encouraged to dress, bathe, and function much as you would at home.
To be admitted to Swing Bed you must qualify by meeting certain criteria. These are determined by your treatment team. Services that may be part of your care include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, IV Therapy, and Wound Care.
Swing Bed is designed to provide continued care to a patient on a decreasing scale while expecting patients to perform more and more tasks as they become more independent. Though most insurances require prior authorization, this is a defined benefit for Medicare patients that is a less costly option for the patient than staying in an acute care bed.
